My top 5 innovations of 2018!

Bijgewerkt op: 1 jan. 2019

Hi everyone! I’m back in business with my blog!

To Get off to a Good Start I made a video about my top 5 innovations of the year 2018, innovations that have from my point of view a certain value creation. It was a though choice because there was a lot going on this year.

So let’s start…

FIBRICHECK

I am going to start with a Belgium based company named Fibricheck, that created a unique technology. It’s an application that uses your smartphone camera to measure heart rhythm disorders.

How does it work? I got this example from their site: When you feel your heart racing and it worries you a little bit… But you have no knowledge of any heart disorders? Luckily there is Fibricheck, who can measure your heart rhythm by using the smartphone camera. It also sends your measurements to your doctor so he can get good insights about the patient’s condition. The app can save a lot of time and you can use it anywhere at any time.

And For your interest: this year Fibricheck was granted market clearance from the US Food& drug Administration. the first-FDA approved mobile app for heart rhythm disorders by using only an optical signal originating from a non-medical device such as a smartphone.

SIDEWALKLABS

Reimagine cities to improve quality of life. Because the bigger city, the more challenges you have, challenges like higher rent, waste of energy, mobility and more. Sidewalk labs wants to tackle these challenges. The way they work is people-oriented in combination with technology

At this moment they are mainly focussing on Toronto, Sidewalk Labs wants to make Toronto the global hub for innovation.

BE MY EYES

Next, A social innovation , known as Be My eyes, that connects volunteers worldwide with low vision people to give them visual assistance through a live video call. One step away of making the world a better place

Blind people are normally dealing with the same challenges as we do: Play music, go to work and more. But sometimes they need an extra pair of eyes. With the app, blind people or low vision people are able to contact a volunteer for a video chat who would love to help them. It saves a lot of time and misunderstandings.

In this moment there are over one million volunteers.

Do you already have an account?

NEUROREALITY

Another innovation and personal favourite, neuroreality, refers to a reality that is driven by technologies that interface directly with the human brain. While traditional VR depends on a user physically reacting to external stimuli (for example, using a controller) a neuroreality system interfaces directly with the user’s biology through a brain-computer interface (BCI). In simple words, the Computer does what you think.

It’s a very new technology and there aren’t that many companies working with it, One company, Neurable, says their technology is for 85% accurate by doing a test in real time and 99% accurate while doing it with just one second delay.

A little bit tricky but very cool, it is like the black mirror tv show, isn’t it?

NETFLIX TV SHOW BLACKMIRROR, INTERACTIVE TV SHOW

Black mirror is the tv show with scenarios of the future and shows the extreme side of technology

“Bandersnatch," the show’s newest instalment, released Friday, takes that unsettling familiarity to a new level with an interactive element that allows viewers to control the story’s plot. you’ll be presented with a series of choices that chart a path for the main character.

People aren’t watching the tv show anymore.. they are experiencing it, they are in the show, in the story. In my opinion a lot of tv show will follow the example of black Mirror

It created a cool vibe because there are a lot of positive reactions.
